Construction in Inverness was halted during World War II. After the war, Inverness began to grow again. During the early post-war years, the McIntosh Company had control over the sale of lots and the resale of homes. The exterior appearances and house plans had to be approved by the McIntosh Company. Placement of homes was carefully controlled to protect the character of the community.
The Center for recreation in the community in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s was the Inverness Golf Club. Other clubs also had an important place in the social life of residents.
Twenty families founded the Inverness Association in 1944, and dues were $1.00 per year. Today the association has almost 700 families as members.
The Garden Club was organized in 1940 at the four silos. The Inverness Book Club was started in 1954. In 1965, the Women's Club of Inverness was organized. All of these clubs are in existence today and offer a wide variety of social interaction for members.
In 1962, Inverness was incorporated as a Village. The first meeting of the Village board was held at the Field House, which was then at the western edge of the Village. In 1977, the Village Hall was relocated to a 100-year old farmhouse on Palatine Road. It was again relocated in 1985 to its present location at the four silos, which has become a famous landmark for the community.
During the 1970s and 80's, the Village continued to grow fast pace. Homes became larger and styles were more varied. Residential lots are typically at least one acre in size and most residential streets meander through the countryside.
During this period, the Village annexed large areas of existing homes in unincorporated Cook County, which produced the foundation for further annexations to the west, which continued to expand the village limits to what they are today.
Williamsburg Village, the only business development in the Village, was started in 1981. The individual colonial style buildings, and the scenic ponds and bridges, make it look and feel less like a commercial development. Williamsburg Village is located at the intersection of Roselle Rd. and Euclid Ave
In the census of 2000, there were 6,749 people, 2,312 households, and 2,041 families residing in the village.
The median income for a household in the village was $141,672, and the median income for a family was $154,646. Males had a median income of greater than $100,000 versus $60,298 for females.
Schools are Barrington Elementary and High School District 220 or Palatine Elementary School District 15 and Township High School District 211. Inverness is home to the Holy Family Catholic Academy, a Catholic school established in 2002. It educates around 300 students from pre-kindergarten to grade eight. .
