The Village of Hawthorn Woods was incorporated in 1958, and is a predominantly residential community with more than 2,300 homes set on one-acre parcels spread across 3.7 square miles. 

Hawthorn Woods Women's Club provides social activities for women living in Hawthorn Woods. The Hawthorn Woods Women’s Club played a central role in the early days — planning picnics and making drapes for the Village Hall. Today it remains an important part of the Hawthorn Woods social fabric — continuing to plan holiday parties for children, collecting for charity and donating bulletproof vests to the police.

Hawthorn Woods is a non-home rule unit of government and is governed by a President and a six member Board of Trustees elected at large for four-year terms.
